GIS Web Portal Development for Government & Infrastructure in India
A spreadsheet of property coordinates. A folder of drone orthomosaics. A stack of CAD drawings. Most government departments and infrastructure operators are sitting on enormous amounts of spatial data — with no way to make it usable for day-to-day decisions. GIS web portals transform raw geospatial data into interactive, multi-user platforms where every stakeholder — from field officer to department secretary — sees the same up-to-date map.
Dronimagination has built GIS web portals for Kerala's power utility's substation management, Kerala's disaster management department's risk planning, local government bodies' municipal asset management, and private infrastructure monitoring — each customized to the department's workflow, data sources, and user hierarchy.

What Dronimagination's GIS Portals Do
Every GIS portal Dronimagination builds delivers a core set of capabilities, customized to the client's use case:
- Multi-layer map interface: Overlay drone orthomosaic, LiDAR terrain, asset locations, administrative boundaries, revenue records — toggled on/off by users
- Multi-user login hierarchy: Department head, field officer, data analyst, and read-only viewer — each with appropriate access levels
- Dashboard & analytics: Real-time counters, asset status summaries, zone-wise statistics
- Search & query: Find assets, properties, or zones by ID, name, or spatial location
- Integration with existing data: CAD drawings, FMB records, socio-economic databases, IoT sensor feeds
- Export & reporting: PDF reports, data export for departmental systems
Project 1: Kerala's Power Utility — 3D Substation Management Portal (Madakkathara 440 KV)
Kerala's state power utility needed a way to digitally manage their Madakkathara 440 KV substation — tracking tower components, asset status, powerline heights, and boundary records in a single platform.
Dronimagination delivered a 3D web portal integrating:
- 3D powerline and substation asset model viewable in browser
- Digitised FMB (Field Measurement Book) boundary records
- Integrated CAD drawings overlaid on drone orthomosaic
- Line-to-ground height measurements for each span
- Tower component asset inventory with status tracking
A second portal was delivered for the state power utility's Kalamassery 220 KV substation — a 2D version with the same asset management framework, demonstrating Dronimagination's ability to deliver the right level of sophistication for each substation's management needs.

Project 2: Disaster Risk GIS Portal — NIT Calicut Mesoscale Zone
For Kerala's disaster management department and District Collector, Kozhikode, Dronimagination executed a complete LiDAR + RGB drone survey of the NIT Calicut mesoscale mapping area — covering landslide-prone zones — and integrated the outputs into a comprehensive web GIS portal.
The portal integrates:
- LiDAR-derived DEM and hazard slope analysis layers
- Zone-wise landslide risk classification maps
- Socio-economic data by zone — population density, infrastructure assets, relief camp locations
- Pre and post-disaster assessment layers for damage documentation
- Disaster relief fund allocation support data
This portal is directly used by District Administration for disaster preparedness planning, fund allocation decisions, and field coordination during disaster events.
Project 3: Local Government Bodies — Municipal Asset Management GiSLG Portal (2,000+ sq km)
Kerala's local government bodies' Municipal Asset Mapping project presented a scale challenge: 2,000+ sq km of drone survey data, covering multiple panchayats and municipalities, needed to be integrated into a property management system usable by local body staff with varying levels of technical skill.
Dronimagination's GiSLG portal integration delivered:
- Orthomosaic and building footprint layers for every surveyed ward
- Property asset records linked to GIS location
- Tax collection integration with spatial property database
- Socio-economic data layers for planning and scheme targeting
- GIS-based urban governance tools for local body officers
"Dronimagination's end-to-end capability — Survey → Processing → Portal → Deployment — means government clients don't need to coordinate between a drone company, a GIS company, and a software developer. We deliver the complete solution, customized to department requirements."
Project 4: Real Estate Developer — 3D Construction Progress Monitoring Portal
For a real estate developer, Dronimagination built a 3D construction progress monitoring web platform that integrates drone survey data with BIM (Building Information Modelling) — enabling simultaneous planning and as-built comparison at specific construction intervals.
Features: End-to-end 3D visualization, distance and height measurement tools, volumetric quantification, and a digital record of construction progress — accessible to project managers, contractors, and clients in a single browser-based platform.

Conclusion
GIS web portals are not a luxury for data-rich government departments — they are the difference between geospatial data that sits in a hard drive and geospatial intelligence that drives daily decisions. Dronimagination's proven delivery across Kerala's power utility, Kerala's disaster management department, local government bodies, and private infrastructure projects demonstrates what's possible when drone data collection, GIS processing, and portal development are handled by a single integrated team.
